Arctic Foxes
Arctic foxes have shorts ears and legs, and a short, flatter face than red foxes. Our foxes receive a menu of fish (trout), some venison, raw chicken legs, eggs, mice, and an occasional red squirrel or rabbit. Their enclosures are large and are set up with many agility challenges and a pond; Avalanche & Aurora's enclosure also has blackberry bushes which provide another source of snacks during the warmer months. During the heat of summer, staff prepare special "foxicles" made of frozen water encased with treats such as various berries or fish parts. As the ice melts and the foxes gnaw, the yummy treats are revealed as a reward! Sometimes the foxes curl around the large chuck of ice to stay cool.

gray FOXES
Also known as "tree foxes", gray fox spend a huge chunk of their lives in the tree canopy where they hunt small birds, squirrel, chipmunk, and insects. Insects, fruit such as apples and berries are also part of their varied diet. Besides their incredible agility and jumping techniques, gray fox have the ability to rotate their wrists, thus allowing them the skill of climbing tree trunks! Our gray fox habitat includes some smaller trees for climbing, but Fern & Trillium prefer to spend time perched high on the provided ramps and upper platforms while resting or watching over their territory.

red Foxes
Red Foxes are the most common and most commonly seen fox in NYS. They are adaptable to almost any type of area: from fields, forests, countryside, and suburban developments, red fox thrive on rodents as their primary food source. Not picky eaters though, they will eat almost everything including fish, chicken, fruits, veggies, eggs, and even dog kibble. Their coloring ranges from shades of red and orange with gray/black legs and white tipped tails. (Gray fox have black tipped tails.)

silver Foxes
Silver Foxes are actually red foxes with a color variant in their genes. They are silvery/black in color though they still possess the white tail tip marking. Ours live in the same habitat space as the red foxes and share the same diet.
